Privacy Policy for BeMyForager

BeMyForager (“the App”, “we”, “our”) is a plant identification app. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and your choices regarding that information.

1. Information We Collect

Information Stored Only on Your Device

The following data is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to or stored on our servers:

Plant photos you capture or import to identify plants
GPS location of each plant sighting, including a human-readable place name (e.g. city or landmark), generated on your device using Apple’s or Google’s built-in location services
Timestamps of each plant sighting
App language preference

You can delete this data at any time by deleting individual sightings in the App or by uninstalling the App.

Saving Photos to Your Photo Library (Optional)

If you enable this option in Settings, plant photos you capture will also be saved to your device's photo library, in addition to being stored within the App. This is entirely optional and controlled by you, and can be turned off at any time in Settings. Photos saved this way are subject to your device's own photo library permissions and are not transmitted to us or any third party beyond what's described in this policy.

Information Sent to Our Servers

To identify a plant, the photo you capture is sent to our backend (hosted on Supabase), which forwards it to third-party plant identification and plant-data services (PlantNet, Trefle, GBIF) for processing. These photos are used only to return identification results and are not retained by our backend after processing.

Analytics and Crash Data

We use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand app usage and diagnose technical issues. This includes:

App events: when a plant is identified, when a plant is saved, when the app language is changed, and when the demo content is loaded
Standard device information automatically collected by Firebase: app version, operating system version, device model, and a Firebase installation identifier
